I had completely forgotten about how uncritical and stupid people can really be. I remembered it again yesterday when I switched on the telly and watched God's Next Army. It is not like listening to Bush trying to persuade people that Saddam is evil and that they mean well when they attack Iraq. It is even worse because it comes from people younger than me; the encapsulation of neo-conservatism. I heard that Patrick Henry College's students who are chosen/recruited very meticulously, are taught all the courses according to the Bible's 'ultimate truth'! Imagine even biology and geography are taught in relation to biblical allusions... (so what is the difference with the teaching of the Koran or the muslim religion?) I heard the following:
1) About guns: An armed republic is the best defense to fight tyranny.
2) About homosexual marriage and abortion: It is a sin, against the will of God and should be eradicated.
3) About Bush: So far our society was after the path of decadence and darkness whereas since G.W.Bush came to power I would say that we switched more towards the light.
4) About the interns of the college: These kids are the hope of our nation.
I can't go on...This is indeed an army of imbeciles that think God speaks through Bush and every moron that governs this fucking country and belongs to the Republican party.
That is when I reach for my revolver....

hey Mia Wallace (love your screen-name and the film), i'm from the US and saw this last night as well--i'm totally disgusted w/what's gone down there over the last five+ years and so hoping that this trend is nipped in the bud and soon.
Hey Rimone, thanks for the compliments!
Yes, it is utterly disturbing and absurd and I am sure that it is even more disturbing for you as an American who does not cherish these values...I am not very optimistic about what is going on next though. I think the 'next big thing' is the 'second coming' of conservatism as it is in the States. No more big revolutions...But lets hope that at least there will always be people who think critically and be open-minded.
I forgot the part with drinking and smoking (oh, I feel sooo corrupted I ve decided to quit!) Love your site btw!
@vroxopoios: Όπως είπα, αυτή είναι μόνο η αρχή μου φαίνεται...Η επιστροφή του πουριτανισμού είναι κοντά!
lol, Mia, where to begin? on 9/11 my BF and i were to leave the states so he could work in EU (germany). they finally let us out more than a week later...walking through manhattan right afterwards was so depressing but not as depressing as watching our country being taken down post-9/11 by the criminals in the whitehouse.
i'm very frightened at what i see happening over there w/all the bullshit 'religious' hypocrisy--seeing 'god's next army' just scared me more and i don't frighten easily.
i'm glad i found your site--you're on my daily reading list now. :-)
I totally agree and I am relieved to see that every American i ve met in the UK has the same views.
Thanks again, you are on my list too! :)
A propos Rimone, I dont know whether you saw Winterbottom's documentary The Road to Guantanamo last March. I had a relevant post on it on the 10th of March.
yes, i saw the road to guantanamo when it was on here...i'm sure you know that those who starred in it were busted attempting to re-enter the UK, i think in march?
i dig the post you did on it; about this: Distribution in the US has not been secured yet.
i have huge issues whether under the current political repressive climate there, this will happen (and hope i'm wrong).
AFAIC, i totally LOVE British TV; apart from people using their natural language after 9PM, the nudity and subject matter of whatever is SO refreshing to me. then again, i'm very immature--although i've been here almost two years, i still get a kick out of hearing people say 'fuck' and 'shit' on TV and prolly always will.
ps, while looking for your Road to Guanatanamo post, i found 'persistence of memory' and just LOL--loving Dali, i called one of my categories that (reserved for when i care to stroll down memory lane). :-)
Well, I think the majority is crap anyway, but they have some really good stuff every once in a month...(Why did I pay for the bloody Tv licence,I wonder grrr...?)I like their little tributes or documentaries though.
P.S. I appreciate you like Beckett as well!He is my favourite playwright (and I am studying drama)! :)
scanning through these comments this morning, i can't help but think of one of my all-time fave lines (paraphrasing) 'gentlemen, i don't think it's quite time to be sucking each others' dicks just yet.'
:-)
Ok Mr Wolf! :)
