Babel

"If you want to be understood, listen" is the trailer's motto in the latest film by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu. I feel that his previous exquisite work (Amores Perros and 21 Grams) had already foregrounded his ingenious way of narrating fragmented stories establishing strong emotional links among them. When I saw the film it really went beyond my expectations. Babel is a masterpiece, a riveting film that addresses issues of the new world order (globalization and terrorism) where personal stories are skillfully mingled with politics. It is the story of a rifle that triggers an undeclared war between the U.S and a muslim country such as Morocco, also linked to Mexico and Tokyo.

The different geographical narratives really suck you into them creating feelings of unrest not because they are strange or violent but because they are strongly familiar. Excellent cast, photography, soundtrack, direction. I cannot remember the last time I went out of the cinema more stunned and amazed. A must-see...

Ι love this film!It was the film that made me write all this posts on the theme of communication. Each of the stories could make a movie alone and I particularly liked the story that was set in Tokyo.I compare this film with the brilliant "crash" that was screen last year about racism.Different themes but deeply profound films.
Welcome back!

@ Horexakias: Μη σου πω και για το 2005...Εξαίσιο συναίσθημα που σε διαπερνά και σε κλονίζει.

@Pixie: Thank you sweety! Oh yes, can really share your being inspired by it. I havent seen Crash yet, but something tells me I would like it! I always like movies that narrate fragmented stories of different people (e.g. Amores Perros, A Night on Earth etc).

I cant wait really..(so weird, really! the film was first out in Greece and now here in the UK..)
I recently saw Night on Earth, by the way- extremely good- the story in Helsinki really stabbed me.

Hehe I know it is weird...I remember this also happened with the Chinese 'Hero' which came out a year or so later here! Yes, 'A Night on Earth' is one of my old time fav movies, when I still appreciated Jarmoush. (after Broken Flowers I am pissed off!) :)
