9 Songs

5 Things that have enraged me with Nine Songs

1. The pretentious contention by its contributors (actors and director) that they were making
high 'art' and not pornography. The female actress, Margo Stiley actually asserted that she
did not believe that people (and mostly men) were sexually aroused when watching it (think
again, love!)
2. The meaningless overexposure and focus on the naked female body. As if it was saying, 'right,
I am going to shock you now, therefore, I am going to show you many close-ups of her
vagina). 'I might as well spread the word that it contains real sex so that it can sell.'
3. No script but silly improvisations by the actors
4. No ideas whatsoever! The symbolic shots in the desolate Antartica did not serve any purpose
and did not manage to transform the film into an art form or to attribute any deep meaning to it.
5. Boring even if it lasted for 69 minutes! (this is a joke indeed...)

1 Thing that I enjoyed
Music!!!

I agree with you.It was pointless and it made me really mad.The music was the only thing that mattered and I am sure that even the bands that are on it will not appreciate it the way it turned up.The ponography was quite hardcore-just in order to shock.

The funny thing was that the actor was claiming that when the bands were informed about the real sex in the film, they found it cool! (this was before the film was released though, hahaha) :)

I agree it was pointless to even discuss it in the merits of 'art', as it contained nothing new, smart or even remotely interesting.
If you choose to discard the marketing and the views of the makers and actors, and see it as porn, well, I liked it a lot more than most porn around.
Unfortunately, I found the music boring! :p

To be honest there was some potential to be meaningful and interesting (like the scenes in Antartica commenting on the alienation in human relationships etc or the improvides dialogue). The thing is Winterbottom did not exploit these potentials at all, but rather provided fragmetations of ideas focusing on empty images of the naked body. In terms of music, I agree; all of us have seen very good rocumentaries or films that music has its own role to play in the narration and here, this is NOT the case!!! :)
